Nutrition and mental health are inextricably linked. Autumn Stringham details in her bipolar autobiography, "A Promise of Hope" how her father, Anthony Stephan, and his partner, David Hardy, were forced to develop a nutritional supplement to end her psychotic state, thereby saving her life. This book outlines how the company Truehope came to be. Anthony's father-in-law committed suicide due to bipolar disorder. His wife had also been psychotic and had once tried to kill all the kids before she too, committed suicide. His daughter, Autumn, became fully psychotic from bipolar. Doctors said she'd remain this way her entire life, heavily medicated, with no hope for a turnaround and that the family should just accept that fact. Then his youngest son began exhibiting the rage-filled behavior some of us bipolars experience. Anthony, an engineer, was desperate to save his children's lives. He shared his dilemma with his friend, pig farmer David Hardy. David said the symptoms sounded an awful lot like "tail and ear biting syndrome", which he witnessed on his farm. When asked how the pigs were calmed, David said they just upped the amount of vitamins and minerals in their feed and they calmed right down. As ridiculous as this may sound, a human version was formulated and tested on Autumn who was completely psychotic by this time. When given the intitial batch, Autumn responded well and came back to reality enough that Stephan and Hardy knew they were on the right track. Many versions and over 12 years later, we have the powerful form of EMPowerPlus that exists today. This is the main product in a short list made by Truehope to quell mental illness symptoms. The company endured a massive 4-year legal battle with its own government, which thankfully they won, or I would have died before ever being able to lead you to them now. Truehope saved my life too. The painful, drawn out court fight, during which many Truehope customers committed suicide because they could not access the products, ended with a legal precedent being set. The company can NEVER interrupt supply to a regular customer by LAW! If they did (not that they ever would) and that person killed him/herself, the company would be held on manslaughter charges. Tell me what other nutritional company operates under that type of a directive? Autumn's story, which tells of her family history and the struggles of a bipolar household, is poignant, sad, enlightening, and filled with hope, as the title suggests. It clearly outlines how nutrition and mental health are bound to one another and why bipolar people need to investigate Truehope further. Please do so now, for your own sake.
